I gave the talk Structure-preserving time integration methods based on relaxation at the Numerical Analysis Seminar at Lund University (Sweden) on Tuesday, 2023-02-07, 15:15 CEST.

Abstract

Relaxation methods are small modifications of standard time integration schemes such as Runge-Kutta or linear multistep methods - designed to preserve the conservation or dissipation of important functionals of the solution. This can be an entropy in the case of compressible fluid flows, the energy of Hamiltonian problems, or another nonlinear invariant. We will introduce the basic idea, present applications including dispersive wave equations, and provide an outlook to some recent developments.
